The team behind the KHARKHORUM 360° Visual Art & Music Festival has unveiled details of this year’s event, marking the fourth edition of one of Mongolia’s most ambitious audiovisual festivals.
Returning after a three-year break, the festival will be held under the theme “TIME” on August 22–23 at Ulaanbaatar’s Central Stadium. Previous editions explored concepts including Eclipse and Spirits, while this year’s festival aims to combine Mongolia’s historical heritage with contemporary digital art and electronic music.
The centerpiece will be a massive 360-degree digital installation measuring 12 meters high and 300 meters long, surrounding the Central Stadium. Specially created digital content will accompany each artist’s performance, allowing audiences to experience music, visual art and immersive technology simultaneously. A Cinematic Orchestral sound system will also be used to create a deeper spatial audio experience.
Under the “TIME” concept, organizers plan to recreate five major periods and events in Mongolia’s history, taking audiences on an audiovisual journey spanning more than 2,000 years from the era of the Xiongnu to the present day.
The festival has also launched the “One Ticket – One Tree – One Legacy” initiative in connection with Mongolia’s hosting of COP17. Under the initiative, every festival ticket will contribute to the creation of a Kharkhorum Grove, extending the environmental legacy of the event beyond the festival itself.

BAZAAR brings culture and creativity together

KHARKHORUM’s wider program spans 12 days and includes BAZAAR, a project combining creative culture, heritage, entertainment and commerce.
The program features traditional Mongolian arts and cultural performances alongside contemporary entertainment. Recent events have included UB QUIZ Night and performances by Diamond Circus, adding interactive and family-friendly elements to the festival atmosphere.

International artists join the lineup

Among this year’s announced international guests is DJ DOTT, founder of Bangkok-based collective More Rice and an artist active on the international electronic music scene.
Known for combining deep basslines and Acid Jazz influences with electronic music, DOTT has released music through independent labels and performed at internationally recognized venues and festivals including Hoppetosse in Berlin, Houghton Festival in the UK, Epizode in Vietnam and Wonderfruit in Thailand.
KHARKHORUM has a history of bringing prominent international electronic artists to Mongolia. Previous editions have featured Germany’s Len Faki and HOSH, Ukraine’s Nastia, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, and other international and Mongolian performers. 
This year also marks a significant step toward KHARKHORUM’s international ambitions. The festival has collaborated with Mixmag Lab, the global electronic music platform, with its Mongolia event described as the first Mixmag Lab event in Central Asia. 
With its enormous panoramic screen, immersive sound, historical storytelling and international electronic music lineup, KHARKHORUM: TIME aims to transform the Central Stadium into a space where Mongolia’s past, present and future meet through music and digital art.
