Minister of Health Batshugar Enkhbayar, together with WHO Representative to Mongolia Socorro Escalante, reviewed the progress of the National Reference Laboratory for Medicines Quality Control project.
According to the Ministry of Health, the establishment of the laboratory will significantly strengthen Mongolia’s capacity to monitor the quality and safety of medicines in a more efficient and timely manner.
Once operational, the laboratory is expected to double the number of samples analyzed annually while expanding the range of testing services. Authorities say it will also improve the speed and effectiveness of quality and safety assessments, reduce testing backlogs, and enhance detection limits and measurement accuracy.
The project is seen as a key step toward strengthening Mongolia’s pharmaceutical regulatory system. It is expected to support the country in reaching Maturity Level 3 under the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool, an internationally recognized standard for regulatory performance.
Officials note that achieving this level would open new opportunities for Mongolia to export domestically produced medicines, pharmaceutical raw materials and medical devices to international markets, while ensuring higher safety standards for public health.
