The 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), co-organized with the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, was held in Istanbul from April 15 to 19, 2026, bringing together more than 720 members of parliament from 126 countries and over 1,500 officials.

Representing the Parliament of Mongolia were MP O.Nominchimeg, Chair of the Standing Committee on Petitions and head of the IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, and MP B. Munkhsoyol. They participated in plenary and committee sessions and held meetings with counterparts to exchange views on key global issues.

During the assembly, Nominchimeg chaired closed meetings of the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, presented its decisions for adoption at the plenary session, and took part in marking the committee’s 50th anniversary. She also announced the launch of the “Bring Human Rights into Focus” campaign and called on parliamentarians worldwide to support efforts to strengthen human rights protection.

At the closing session, participants unanimously adopted the Istanbul Declaration, proposed by Numan Kurtulmuş, which emphasizes strengthening peace, justice, and cooperation among nations. The agenda also included an urgent debate on coordinating parliamentary efforts to support ceasefires and promote peace in conflict-affected regions, which received majority backing.

An official letter from the Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament, S. Byambatsogt, was delivered to IPU Secretary General M.Chungong during the event. The assembly also held the election for Secretary General, with Romanian candidate Anda Filip winning 72 percent of the vote.

Women accounted for 37 percent of participants, while 13 percent were under the age of 40, reflecting growing inclusiveness in parliamentary diplomacy. Mongolia’s participation highlighted its active role in international cooperation and its commitment to promoting human rights and dialogue amid ongoing global challenges.
