Every year on April 22, the world observes International Earth Day. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity, while emphasizing the critical role of public participation in environmental conservation. Various activities and campaigns are organized globally to inform and engage people on environmental issues.
This year’s observance is held under the theme “Plastic and the Earth.” Over the past 60 years, more than eight billion tons of plastic have been produced worldwide, of which 90.5 percent has not been recycled and remains in the environment. Experts stress that plastic production must be reduced by at least 60 percent to ensure a safe and healthy living environment. Protecting the Earth is not only about preserving nature today but also about safeguarding the future of coming generations.
