Seema Malhotra, the United Kingdom’s Minister for the Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, paid an official visit to Mongolia on March 23–25.

During the visit, she met with Mongolian Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar to discuss bilateral relations and the progress of ongoing joint projects and programs. The prime minister подчеркed that strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom—one of Mongolia’s key “third neighbors”—remains a priority of the country’s foreign policy, and expressed Mongolia’s intention to elevate ties to a Comprehensive Partnership.

On the second day of the visit, Malhotra took part in the Mongolia–UK political roundtable meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by Mongolia’s Deputy Foreign Minister G.Amartuvshin and Minister Malhotra.

Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral relations, economic cooperation, trade, investment and the broader geopolitical environment. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as civil society, education, mining and mineral resources, as well as trade and investment.

Particular attention was given to the Ulaanbaatar metro project, which is expected to be financed through a long-term loan backed by the UK government.

During her visit, Malhotra also toured the Oyu Tolgoi mine and met with Chevening scholarship alumni, representatives of civil society organizations, and women leaders from politics and business.
