Mongolia has been included in the list of countries whose citizens may be required to post a visa bond when traveling to the United States, under a pilot program aimed at strengthening visa compliance.
Starting April 2, 2026, Mongolian applicants for B1/B2 visitor visas may be required to deposit a bond of up to $15,000. According to the U.S. Embassy, consular officers will determine eligibility during the visa interview and provide instructions on how to make the payment. Visas will not be issued until the bond has been fully paid.
The visa bond program was initially introduced by the U.S. Department of State in August 2025, targeting mainly African countries, and has since been gradually expanded. Mongolia was among 12 additional countries added last week, alongside Nigeria, Bangladesh, Nepal, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Namibia, Guinea, Senegal, Algeria, and Angola. The total number of countries under the program has now exceeded 50.
