A technical meeting of the Government–United Nations Joint Steering Committee was held to review the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Mongolia (2023–2027).
Between 2023 and 2025, the United Nations implemented around 160 programs and activities across multiple sectors in Mongolia. These initiatives focused on supporting economic growth and diversification, strengthening social protection systems, promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing climate change adaptation, advancing the transition to clean energy and digital transformation, supporting youth development, and strengthening inclusive governance.
The meeting assessed whether these initiatives are reaching target groups, aligning with Mongolia’s national development priorities, and generating sustainable systemic impact.
The total funding required for the 2023–2027 cooperation framework is estimated at $224.6 million. As of the end of 2025, approximately $130.3 million had been spent, while $27 million has been mobilized for activities planned for 2026–2027.
UN-supported programs have produced tangible results in health, education, and social protection. Amendments to the Immunization Law were supported in 2023, and efforts to expand HPV vaccination increased coverage among girls in the target age group to 54.6 percent. In addition, more than 25,800 children received development and protection services, while over 37,000 people participated in digital and vocational training programs.
Programs aimed at environmental protection and climate resilience have also delivered results. More than 760,000 people benefited from climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction initiatives, while improvements to water and sanitation systems in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts helped over 366,000 residents. Clean heating and energy efficiency solutions have benefited over 20,600 people, including thousands of households that transitioned away from coal-based heating.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination among government agencies, improving monitoring of results, and enhancing joint planning as preparations begin for the next cooperation cycle (2028–2032).
