Speaker of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, N. Uchral, paid an official visit to Russia at the invitation of Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The visit aimed to strengthen friendly relations and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. It also focused on maintaining regular high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation between the two legislatures.

During the visit, Speaker Uchral held official meetings with State Duma Chairman Volodin and with Valentina Matviyenko, Chair of the Federation Council. The sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

Speaker Uchral and Chairman Volodin also held official talks, during which both sides emphasized the potential to elevate Mongolia–Russia trade and economic cooperation to a new level. They noted that there are broad opportunities to increase Mongolia’s exports and highlighted the importance of stronger business-to-business ties in expanding economic relations.

As part of the visit, Speaker Uchral attended and delivered remarks at the second meeting of the Cooperation Commission between the State Great Khural of Mongolia and the Federal Assembly of Russia. Discussions covered a wide range of areas, including economic cooperation, fuel and energy, transport and infrastructure, agriculture, cross-border cooperation and environmental issues.

Speaker Uchral also met with Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The two sides discussed ways to expand economic and trade cooperation between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states.

During the visit, the Mongolian delegation toured the Russian Academy of Sciences, where Speaker Uchral met with its president, Gennady Krasnikov. Both sides noted the growing cooperation between the academies of the two countries.

Environmental issues were also discussed, including the protection of Lake Baikal and the Selenga River basin. Speaker Uchral expressed confidence that researchers from both countries would produce scientifically grounded assessments regarding the potential environmental impact of Mongolia’s proposed Eg River hydropower project on Lake Baikal.

In Moscow, Speaker Uchral and members of the delegation laid flowers at the “Horses Striving for Victory” monument, a gift from the Mongolian people to the Russian people, located in Victory Park. They also laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden. The ceremony was attended by Mongolian officials and by State Duma Deputy Chairman A.V. Gordeyev.

The visit underscored Mongolia’s continued engagement with Russia at the parliamentary level, with a focus on strengthening economic ties, expanding legislative cooperation and maintaining dialogue on regional and environmental matters.
