A briefing meeting on cashmere value chain development was held under the European Union–funded STREAM+ project—Sustainable Ecosystem and Agriculture Management for Rural Development in Mongolia—to brief the European Union on the project’s overall approach, implementation process, and planned next steps.

The meeting presented STREAM+ activities aimed at strengthening the cashmere value chain, with a focus on improving community-level cashmere collection, advancing community-based breeding programs, conducting quality assessments of Erchim Khar cashmere, supporting cashmere product development, and contributing to the legal framework for the development of Geographical Indications (GI).

The briefing was attended by representatives of the European Union, led by H.E. Ina Marciulionyte, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia. Participants also included representatives from national and local government institutions, herder organizations, cashmere processors, herders, and the developer of the Erchim Khar cashmere breed.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on implementation progress and to strengthen coordination among stakeholders working to promote a more sustainable, quality-driven, and value-added cashmere sector in Mongolia.
