The ceremonial outfits that Mongolian athletes will wear at the opening of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Milan–Cortina d’Ampezzo have attracted growing international attention, continuing a pattern of strong global interest in Mongolia’s Olympic ceremony attire.

Designed by Goyol Cashmere, the outfits were noticed by fashion professionals and international audiences soon after their unveiling. Olympic opening and closing ceremony attire is widely regarded as a platform through which countries present their history, culture, and contemporary identity, and Mongolia’s designs have consistently stood out for their clear cultural narrative.

This is not the first time Mongolian Olympic outfits have received international recognition. At previous Games—including the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics—Mongolia’s ceremonial clothing drew praise for its distinctive use of traditional forms, craftsmanship, and symbolism, reinforcing the country’s reputation for thoughtful cultural presentation on the global stage.

The Milan–Cortina designs are rooted in ceremonial attire from the XIII–XV centuries, the era of the Great Mongol Empire. Traditional elements such as a protective high collar, a closed front, and a movement-friendly slit are combined with luxurious Mongolian cashmere, silk trim, and traditional horn-pattern embroidery. The collection also includes cashmere knit ensembles inspired by nomadic life and alpine winterwear, incorporating visual references to the Mongolian ger and everyday pastoral culture.

As images of the outfits circulate internationally, Mongolia’s Olympic attire once again demonstrates how global sporting events serve not only as athletic competitions but also as opportunities for cultural storytelling and soft diplomacy.
