The 50th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, from November 3 to 14, 2025. Mongolia is among the 14 Member States under review during this session. On November 4, the national delegation led by Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented the country’s fourth national report on the human rights situation. The presentation was made in line with UN General Assembly Resolution 60/251, which requires Member States to periodically report on the implementation of their human rights commitments.
The session, chaired by Răzvan-Victor Rusu, Vice-President of the Human Rights Council, featured statements from 78 Member States. Delegations commended Mongolia for its progress in promoting and protecting human rights and offered recommendations for further improvement. Mongolia’s delegation included representatives from the Judicial General Council, the Office of the Prosecutor General, and several ministries, including Justice, Foreign Affairs, Health, Education, Labor, Social Protection, and Environment. The discussion covered key issues such as child rights, freedom of the press, gender equality, judicial independence, anti-corruption, and protection of vulnerable groups.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will develop a national action plan to implement the recommendations, in coordination with relevant institutions, for submission to the Government.
