Yesterday, the Standing Committee on Justice, the Standing Committee on Environment, Food, and Agriculture, and the Standing Committee on Human Development and Social Policy held their respective sessions to conduct the third reading of Mongolia’s 2026 state budget draft.

Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry J. Enkhbayar stated that the 2026 budget aims to reduce administrative positions, limit the expansion of public sector staffing, and ensure the implementation of the Law on State Efficiency, redirecting saved resources toward social sectors.

Members of Parliament discussed urgent issues such as raising salaries for teachers and healthcare workers and increasing pensions and social benefits for senior citizens. Several MPs proposed raising the ceiling of current expenditures from 24 percent to 30 percent of GDP to secure additional funding for these policy measures, as well as to increase wages in the culture and sports sectors.
