As part of the UN@80 campaign with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations is highlighting the work of its agencies in Mongolia. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has supported Mongolia’s food and agriculture sector for over 60 years.
FAO programs have improved the legal framework for organic production, enabling the “Mongol Organic” label and establishing an accredited certification body. More than 18,000 farmers have also been registered in the national plant database. Key innovations include Red Angus cattle, embryo transfer technology, and the Erchmiin Black Goat for cashmere, which have raised the quality and value of livestock products. FAO has also introduced four-season hydroponic greenhouses and promoted sustainable land management practices, now applied across nearly half of Mongolia’s territory.
